Cat Information
There are many types of cats with different characteristics, shape, face and type of fur. The majority of cats share the same features, they can live over 20 years but generally have a lifespan of about 12-16 years. Cats use their tails to balance, they also use it for communication and protection against the cold by curling it around themselves.
The history of cats...
Cats originate from Egypt but were domesticated in Europe. They are usually colonial animals in the wild but domestically they are of ten kept singly. Cats are carnivores and hunt their prey using their good eyesight, agile bodies and sharp claws and teeth. Cats instinctively catch mice, rats, birds and sometime amphibious animals.
● A Balanced diet(without any bones) which includes a constant supply of fresh water.
● A Garden or place tom play away from busy roads.
● To have somewhere warm to sleep and to have a cat flap would be great so they can be independent.
● To be brushed (especially if they have long hair) and their teeth cleaned regularly.
● Worm and flea treatment regularly, injections against serious diseases and to be taken to the vet if required.
● To be loved, cared for and never to be left alone for too long.
Cats are usually fed twice a day but kittens must be fed more regularly but in smaller portions. They like to drink milk and cream but if this is given too often they can be subject to diarrhoea. When you first purchase a cat or kitten they require time to get used to their environment. Before allowing them to roam outside its best they get used to the house and the family. Gradually they can be introduced into other areas before finally the garden. Children need to be taught to handle them and to allow them their independence.
